My Art Journey
I began my artistic career when I retired from the high tech jungle in 2008. At that time I began searching for a creative outlet for my restless inquisitiveness. I had long been drawn to all forms of stonework. Rough, uneven, human built stone structures filled me with wonder and joy. Edifices like the asymmetrical stone steps reaching for the sky in the Nepal Himalayas or the labyrinth of rugged dry stack stone walls demarking the Ireland countryside intoxicated me. The repetition of the irregular stones and their relationship to one another generated a rhythm that moved me and reverberated within my soul. I began to make mosaics to reproduce these feelings.
After many successful years as a contemporary mosaic artist with shows and awards in the US and Europe, the physical demands of creatng mosaics began to take a negative toll on my body. I turned to less injurious practices to sate my need for creative artistry. I found that a mixed media practice allowed me to continue to make evocative art pain free.
I employ a loose, intuitive, spontaneous and improvisational approach to produce my art using acrylic paints, inks, paint pens, graphite, charcoal, soft pastels and collage techniques. I am inspired by color, geometric patterns, organic shapes, flow and abstraction. I strive to undertake my work with an open and free mind, preferring to move my subconscious into visible consciousness. I allow intensional exploration, playfulness and happy accidents to guide me through my artistic process. My aesthetic is strongly influenced by finding allure in imperfection and embracing the beauty of flaws and rawness. I continue to experiment, look for new ways to express myself and be happy with my work
